LAQ Competitions

Our Mt Gravatt Centre is in the South East Region and participates in the Regional Relays and Regional Championships against the following centres in our region: Redlands, Wynnum, Balmoral, Beenleigh, Browns Plains, Jimboomba, Springwood, Sunnybank and Algester. All ages have the opportunity to compete at QSAC at least once during the season.

Eligibility for nomination to Regional Championships (and State Championships) includes a requirement of prior participation in not less than four (4) centre level meetings, unless the Committee of Management of the nominating centre considers that extenuating circumstances exist.

Regional Relays (November)

After nominations have closed, ALL children are organised into teams to compete in events chosen from: 4 x 70m, 4 x 100m, 4 x 200m, 4 x 400m (4 in each team); long jump, high jump, shot put and discus (team up in pairs). Points are awarded on performances and the Centre to gain the most points (on a weighted average) wins. We encourage ALL children – irrespective of ability- to nominate for our only TEAM competition of the year in the U/7 to U/17 age groups.

State Relays

Teams that come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Regional Relays compete in the State Relays against teams from other regions throughout Queensland, (U/7s and U/8s do not progress to the State Relays). The Centre gaining the most points wins the State Shield.

Junior Carnival (U/7’s to U/10’s)

This competition is especially for children in these age groups to compete at QSAC.

Senior Carnival (U/11’s to U/17’s)

This competition at QSAC, Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre, gives the State team selectors their first look at the U/13 children with a view to keeping track of promising athletes for the State Team. A gala event for the seniors of the clubs.

QLAA Pentathlon

Children from age groups U/9 to U/17 may enter this competition, the programme of events being one throw, one jump, hurdles, 100M and 800M.

Regional Championships (February)

Children in all age groups, U/7 to U/17 may nominate in upto and including FIVE events. The first FOUR place-getters in finals in age groups U/9 to U/17 will proceed on to the State Championships. This is a two-day competition held on a weekend in February. U/7 and U/8 are eligible to compete but do not progress to the State Championships.

State Championships

Qualifiers from each region compete against each other, many coming from all parts of Queensland. Medals are awarded to the place-getters in each event.

Australian Team Championships

Based on the State Championships, a team of eleven girls and eleven boys is selected from the Under 13 age group to represent Queensland in the ATC, held in a different capital city every year. In addition, two U15 pentathletes, (boys & girls), are chosen as part of the State Team. To be eligible for selection, athletes must have competed in a minimum of 60% of club competition meets.
